Which fruits and vegetables have the least amount of pesticide residues?

In 2003, the Environmental Working Group released the report "Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce" in which they reported on pesticide residues found on 46 popular fresh fruits and vegetables. Their report was based upon an analysis of over 100,000 U.S. government pesticide test results. The following are the 12 fruits and vegetables that they found least likely to have concentrated pesticide residues:

  • Asparagus
  • Avocados
  • Bananas
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Corn (sweet)
  • Kiwi
  • Mangoes
  • Onions
  • Papaya
  • Pineapple
  • Peas (sweet)
  • To learn about the fruits and vegetables that the Environmental Working Group found to contain the most concentration of pesticide residues, and those that you should avoid if you must prioritize your purchasing of organic produce, see the Ask George entitled: "Which fruits and vegetables contain the most pesticide residues?"
